Bay Area BYCers!

They are small aren't they Cheryl??? I so like big birds. I do have 2 bantam breeds but I can't resist fluffy Silkies & the others are John Blehm true Lavender Ameraucanas. I will probably end up selling them. I was drawn to the Exchequers that I think it was peachick selling hatching eggs. Leghorns are such good egg layers & the Exchequers are so striking to look at.

We have two hatchery Silver Laced Wyandottes who are 1 1/2 yrs old now. They both lay a large, egg that is rounder in shape than our other hens' eggs. They are very consistent layers and have laid 5-6 eggs/week since they started laying last fall. They didn't even take time off last winter. But, I will say that they are the bullies in my flock. They are the lowest in pecking order of the 7 older hens and they give our young pullets/layers all kinds of grief! Their current target is my beautiful buff brahma hen who has just started laying. She is a gentle soul and just squats when they come up to her. They proceed to jump on her back, peck her head, and pull feathers out. She is way bigger than they are but easily intimidated. And for some reason, they actively seek her out to pick on her. It's not just when she gets in their way. I see them out there stalking her while she tries to find somewhere to hide. I'm considering rehoming them if they don't knock it off. Our best layer is our Golden Sex Link which makes sense since that is what she was bred for. She is one of our smaller hens but lays the biggest egg.

I lost her around the same time Jeremy lost his...Hawk...Polish are no good for free ranging sadly. The hawk didn't take off with her she died though I was very very sad.

I used to have Silver Laced Wyandottes, I sold them all after having them for about a year. Their eggs were medium sized.

I didn't like them because they were LOUD, bossy- constantly picking fights and generally just stupid acting.

Jeremy thank you! I have had such luck with my Roos he is very sweet, noisy but sweet. My wyandottes are sweet , gossip queens but my loudest are my wellsummer and barred rock and the blrw she is a bit demented .
