Because I'm going to be putting some white rock hens with my spprs I'm going to try the old "food coloring up the vent' trick to identify eggs! Can't hurt

Didn't know to try that one but will get ready to give it a try when they start laying again.

Thank you for the well wishes! Life goes on in the backyard! Another one of the older hens has stepped up to take Beauty's place when it comes to picking on Sass. Sigh... She is one of our smallest hens, too. I know that if we still had Lemon Drop he would have broken up the fights. Actually, the older girls targeted him rather than the pullets.

Hey, Kim. I've been trying to vote for your son's team. But every time I vote and they show the total votes cast, the number never goes up. I'm trying to do my 15 per hour but the count is not increasing. Are you sure that it isn't fixed?

I think it updates after a few minutes.

I've worn myself out voting today, but they were at 15% when I started and passed on the link. Then school got out and I got slammed. Less than 2 hours to go. I was wondering too if it was fixed. I go back after the stats and then refresh the page before I vote again.

LD is my low man here. He doesn't like it. Today I had to hide him in the garage because as pretty as he is Sterling is becoming a pain. He see's LD and charges. Gets mad when I sit and pet him and he'll come right up and jump on him. He'd be in the garage right now if I could catch him and LD would be out instead. Can't wait till I have some money to get those peach bims from Karen's friend. I need organization around here and I'm becoming less and less organized as the days go by.

OK hour and a half. More votes

What about putting some pinless peepers on her

That's a good idea! Where do I get them? I have at least 2 hens that need them! I just wish that I could figure out what's going on out there. It seems like it is more than just pecking order. Every five or ten minutes, Sass lets out a loud, long honk that sound like a goose. Sometimes that's what provokes an attack. She just doesn't know how to fly low under the radar like the other young girls and I can't be her rooster/protector all day long.

Then, I'll keep voting!

My DH went with a realtor today and looked at a house on 13.7 acres in Aptos. The price is unreal and now we know why. The property is heavily wooded and on a steep hill side. The house is over 3200 sq feet but all the wiring is ripped out, there is mildew in the walls, and some homeless people have been living in it. The house would have to be gutted and completely redone inside. We don't mind buying a fixer upper but I think this one is a bit beyond us. Plus, I would like at least part of the property to be flat and clear. Oh, well! Back to looking for the perfect spot for us and our chickens!

Thank you, Cheryl! My chickens free range our backyard during the day. These peepers won't get in the way of their foraging, will they? I remember seeing one of your hens wearing them last Oct at the chickenstock. How long did it take to modify their bad behavior?

no they can forage perfectly. I had them on Flo for about 6 mths, and another I had only 3 months or so

I'm working from home tomorrow, come over and get them
