Hello!

I was clued in about the Bay Area BYCers by Jeremy in my "New to BYC" post. I'm brand-spankin' new to chickens. 7 weeks ago I got my three chicks, Henrietta, Eggberta, and Nestlé (H.E.N!) from a local feed store. Henrietta is a PBR, Eggberta is a light brahma and I'm scared that she's a he, and Nestle is *supposedly* and Ameraucana but may be an EE (I hope she's an Am though!).

My husband and I moved to the bay area a year and a half ago from Chicago. We're currently in Livermore but looking to buy in Alameda (*sigh* oh dilapidated Victorians, how I love you). We've got two dogs (rescued) Tuula Tallulah and Lillian Lou. Tuula is a Carolina dog and Lillian is a Catahoula Pit mix. None of our friends have chickens so it's great to see there are lots of like-minded folks who live nearby!

One other thing, CoopByTheBay, we have a light Brahma that we got at the feed store last April. I worried that she was a he even though she came out of the pullet bin. My pullet grew fast but that makes sense since they are large birds. She also started turning red in the comb and wattles earlier than her brooder mates (Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers, and a Blue Langshan). She now lays a pretty light brown egg almost every day!

4! One to lay the egg, one to coach, one to sing along with the egg song and one to make noise at the back door to let you know what's going on.

Oh my gosh, Pet Rock, you don't know how much you've put my mind at ease!!! I was going to post this whole thing in the "What do I have/gender" forum, I even just finished up a photo session just now in the back yard with Eggberta, but I think I'll give it another week - folks there seem quick to deem everything big and red a rooster

She is *huge*, at no more than 8 or 9 weeks old she's already 2 full pounds.

I wouldn't know to be worried about that except that a) she was the smallest of the bunch when I got them and b) our BR is only 1.3 lbs. and they're the same age, plus the Ameraucana/EE, who is at least 2 weeks older than her is only a 1.5 lbs. I can rationalize that Ameraucanas are small but then I started reading that Brahmas are supposed to be really slow to mature and I freaked out. PLUS, she's so aggressive. The other two are absolute angels but she's just got the devil inside her (and from what I've read they're supposed to so docile/lazy/good-natured etc).

Anyhow, I'll just let it be for a while...she's a teenager, I'll just hope it's those raging hormones

Also, Chickenstock?!? Wow! That sounds so great - I'll try to make my way backwards through the forum for more info but yes, count me in!!!!
