It's getting chilly in Oakland at night, we covered the raised beds today with plastic after planting cover crops to help with germination. I'm finally accepting the fact that it actually is becoming wintertime...

So cute! But, I'm glad you don't live someplace really cold. Toby would be wearing a parka and snowboots.

A parka with a (faux

I wish we did get light snow here in the Bay Area, I would love to have a semi white Christmas.

In hindsight I probably should have stuck them all in the bator when they arrived and then the person that one them would just come get them, I hate having eggs sitting...but you never know. One thing about adding water mid stream....at least this is what I've found is that if the water isn't warm enough it will cause a dip...but you know what things still could happen...what's the pipped status now? If possible I'd take a few out and candle, but that's just me...Also if the outcome is truly not a good one I'll see if I can get Greenfire to sneak a few more out for you...they should be shipping me a batch of jubilee orp eggs soon.

Well the 2 "sick" babies are moving around a bit. The marans is moving around more than the isabar. Tonight will be the true test if they will make it. I quickly candled earlier today when I moved the babies that hatched out. At that point no remaining eggs had a pip. When I walk by the incubator I can still hear peeping from at least 1 baby. So I have hope. If it came down to greenfire shipping eggs I think u should incubate them. You would have much better luck I'm sure!

On a side note you have been in my thoughts the last few days. My heart hurts for your loss of Toby.

WOW this is what it looks like when I hatch out chickens and quail. LOL

I wish you had had more of the Dwarfs hatch, but ya did good.

I have a few eggs in lockdown. I think I collected for too long on some. I only have my EE laying. Just need a few to sell or trade for feed and I'm good. I really need to find a way to add lights out there. Most of my birds have finish moulting. All but Big Bird and she's still laying, so maybe that just means the others didn't whisper in her ear that I'd still feed her if she stopped. Maybe I should hold on to any of her pullets though. If they'd lay like her, I'd never have to buy eggs.

*** 2012 National Heirloom Expo ***

Hi Everyone,
yippiechickie.gif

In case you haven't checked their website
caf.gif
... hopefully, we can plan for another mini-meet up on one of the three days like this year's @ Willie Bird's Restaurant .... here's what was posted:

******

The National Heirloom Exposition is a not-for-profit event centered around the pure food movement, heirloom vegetables, and anti-GMO activism. Our first annual event held mid-September, 2011, in Santa Rosa, California, drew more than 10,000 people from around the country and beyond. With more than 70 speakers and 250 natural food vendors, the event was the largest gathering in pure food history! The Heirloom Expo has gained incredible interest among home growers, farmers, school groups and the general public–so much so that it is being called the “World’s Fair” of the heirloom industry!

We are happy to announce that the dates for next year’s event have already been set for September 11, 12, and 13th, 2012 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California. We would like to thank everyone for their support in 2011 and hope all of you can join us again in 2012 for what is sure to be an even bigger and better event.

So my hatch is complete. Worst hatch in my history! No signs of life from the other eggs. The "sick" babies are doing great and all is well with everyone. 2 isabars, 2 marans, 1 dwarf. I am off to work so I'm sad I can't stare at them all day! Lol oh the one on the right is the one that was born with the sticky stuff, he is not wet.
