we used to always get toothbrush and toothpaste every year and also an orange!! Usually a few other actual good things too of course but we were always like really!? we never did figure out the orange! My parents did live in Florida for a while but they say that wasn’t why so

Oranges are good for you! And they smell wonderful. Aggressively embed whole cloves all over it and stick it in a drawer -- it'll make it smell nice.
Also good to use for snowball aiming practice.

Wait.... that’s a real thing!? Huh. We always thought it was just our weirdo parents one of my brothers even asked his frat buddies once if they got oranges too and they were all like what!? Why would you get an orange!?

It's traditional! I mean, we never did it here, but oranges and stuff like that used to be common stocking stuffers. Lots of vitamin C in the middle of the cold winter, when fresh fruits are scarce, and they kept pretty darn well.
I'd love to get an orange in my stocking. I love oranges....
