Establishing a good asparagus bed isnt for everyone. By the way, I would like to try my hand at it. Any recommendations, tips? I’m a glutton for punishment

Buy two year old roots. Follow the package directions to plant them. Keep the bed weeded. Feed it annually. Do not rototill within 2' of the bed. Do not harvest any spears for the first two years. Once you begin harvesting, do not over harvest. Allow the plants to go to seed every year.

My main bed is at least 25 years old.

yeah i’ve seen some real horror stories since we’ve been researching it.....and the camaros have a huge design flaw. there is no gas cap and no lock on the fuel door.

i’m waiting until they get done to determine whether or not to file insurance claim. they have to concur that it was something deliberately put in the tank and it has to exceed my $500 deductible or it’s not worth the trouble of filing the claim

You’re finding more and more ways to find asparagus less than heavenly.

So far, can’t over cook it. Don’t freeze it, don’t can it.

Do... cut fresh from garden.


I have never had it fresh from garden. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Rinse, saute’ in a bit if butter or neutral oil with a bit of salt and/or pepper. Eat as-is or in salad, with fish, as a side dish, etc. If you like hollandaise sauce, thats good too. Asparagus does not freeze well.

A small box. A cardboard one, like the ones that they put bottles of soda in in Walmart. A bit shorter than most of the containers of spices, easy to find, and hard to mess up and lose.

I doubt I'll get there for a long, long time. On the plus side, my current PFM doesn't expire until June or July of 2022.

One year is the longest term available for sale. If you have an unexpired PFM and win, get gifted or buy another PFM. The length of the current PFM will be extended by the length of the new PFM.

Talking about growing asparagus reminded me. Has anyone else grown sprouts for their chickens? I accidentally bought whole kernel corn and no one would touch it so I’ve started sprouting it a few flats at a time. They go crazy for it. I’ll take some pics of the process tomorrow if anyone’s interested. Total of $11 invested and should be able to get 7-8 flats of sprouts out of it.

And yeah sometimes I do if it’s not too bad but ya. They’re kinda picky anyway
