BBS (Blue Black Splash) Marans - Pumperkinz

Lol...I'm finally back down to a decent number now. All my pullets are keepers now til I see egg color. Still got 9 boys to select thru, but it's manageable.

I say that knowing full well there's 48 eggs in the bator due Monday....🤣
Man going into winter with babies is brave!

I wait till about March unless someone requests and pays me up front LOL.

Goslings I'm hoping to have 30/40 hatch outs at least to pay for my new projects come spring :)

Brooder coop in the pole barn is subfloored 4" off the concrete I can heat and then they'll have their brooder plate also.

Roughly 30 of them are sold.

Merry Christmas, my friend. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks Wrath you too! Good luck in the new year :)

I have some big plans for my geese, and maybe some of my marans.

Building a 30x15 barn for everyone so my morning chores are really easy lol.

Awesome. Post pics of it along the way. Building yourself? Stick built (stud walls) or Pole barn?
I've started lights to gear up and moved P/O (BCM) back into Kongs coop now that the pullets in Poppys Silver coop are starting to lay and looking to start collecting eggs by late January. Excited to get these BCM boys selected thru for next year's breeders.
Should be total chaos, wouldn't have it any other way.

Totally forgot to respond here.

Going to have a local company help build it and clear some out. I have to design 10+ runs with it, so I want focus mostly on the marans.

I let go of my last BCM boy as I had too many, and they just weren't up to my quality of what I want going into next year.

I kept both blues, one with the single barring, and the splash and my OG BCM rooster. Also kept all the BCM's that had good structure and good color on their necks.

I'll end up looking at doing a separate BCM coop I think with the design plans.

My thought would be to keep seperate lines if possible. Hatch enough out from both to do your selections. Then merge each line together creating your line knowing what each line produces individually and can pair up accordingly.
I agree, I need to figure out what hens are laying egg colors, and seeing what comes from them with a certain roo to kinda nail things down. It's going to take at least 2 years to get things documented. Thanks again for all the help last year! And thanks to everyone else too with selecting this past year ♥♥

I've got nest box stalking down to a science if I can get out there early enough. By next year I'm hoping to have a few trap nests built....much simpler to pen pullet in for 2 weeks to track eggs.
