I have some young Black Copper Marans pullets and they just don't lay like they should. i hatched them with some barred rocks and a couple mutt eggs. i kept 3 barred rock pullets and 2 of the mutt pullets. i get 5 eggs a day from the Br and mutts every day. the BCM just lay a egg now and then. the most BCM eggs i got was 3 in one day they started to lay in December. i got a couple bcm eggs and thought all right. then nothing for a week or so them a few more eggs then nothing.all my birds get the same feed and get to free range. i thought OK they might be hiding the eggs so i kept them all in lock down still no eggs from the bcm's just my five brown eggs a Day. this is really starting to bother me i like 6 eggs and 3 slices of toast for breakfast if i don't get my six eggs i feel shorted lol. what would cause them to lay like this or should i say to not lay like this. do bcm need a special diet? i thought they were supposed to be good layers. sine they started laying in the first part of December i think i have got about 30 eggs to date. in my opinion at that rate they are not worth feeding. thanks

Sometimes if there have been a lot of Brother to Sister matings, over time the fertility goes down and the offspring lay less. Just one of many possible reasons.

Just when i am ready to make soup out of them i get a couple eggs from them. pic is of the 2 BCM eggs and 2 mutt eggs and one barred rock egg.
