To be completely honest black widows bother me the least of the spiders. They, at least all the ones I have come across, are less aggressive than brown recluse. Now I still tip all rocks, logs, or anything that has been sitting for more than a week away from me, but that is more for the snakes than spiders. I haven't ever found a spider in the coop though, I think the chickens get them before I ever see them.

Thankfully, we don't have too many truly dangerous spiders here in the Pacific Northwest. There is the Hobo Spider, but I've never seen one.

btw... i have been bitten twice by the black widow and live to tell about it...

although i didn't die, it was very very painful... not as painful as passing a stone (two months ago) but i couldn't use my arm for a week, and it hurt for two weeks straight... it was a horrible ordeal...

I'm hating our snowy, cold weather today in Wisconsin. But reading this makes me happy that most icky creatures can't survive our harsh winters. Even though deer ticks that can give you Lyme Disease are rampant here

HEBEES! HEBEES! When we bought our first house it was a foreclosure that sat dorment and was RIDDLED with spiders. Though they were harmless, their very number made me shudder. There were so many, it haunted my nightmares! It has now taken me 8 years to be comfortable around spiders again...but it all goes out the window when faced with that element of surprise! HEBEES!!!
