they beagle will be extremely interested. I would advise you to lock the chicks in a room where the dogs cannot get to them. My beagles are very determined and ingenious little buggers. Some think beagles have obsessive compulsive disorder but that is their normal behavior. When they are stalking game they will not stop until the game is caught. That's what they were bred for. They well bay (howl) to let you know they're chasing it and have it cornered. My beagles stalk birds, rabbits, deer, moose and yes, even the fish in my pond. My beagles have never had any hunting training, only basic obedience training. One night they cornered a moose and her baby. The were baying so much they couldnt or didn't wat to hear me calling them off. I had to walk down to them (within 20 feet of the moose) and physicaly pick them up (obsessive compulsive disorder). Hence the reason my flock will not free-range.

I strongly advise that you NEVER leave the beagles unattended with ANY animal smaller than they are.

I don't have my chicks yet

, but I do have a Beagle and she chases/hunts everything too. I love her but I will NOT let her or my other dog (she kills mice) around them, when I get them.

mine are the same way. they catch gophers, mice, chipmunks, etc and bring them to me. just like they were bred to do. beagles are very good natured, but a chicken doesn't know the difference between play and fight. in other words, i don't think the beagle would intentionally kill the chickens, but he might play with them until the chicken dies.

the only way there might be some success with the beagle and chicken combination is that it is clearly established that the chickens are YOURS, you are the LEADER of the pack and the beagle follows your commands explicitly. (no, off, drop-it, come, stay, sit)

Our first beagle showed no interest in cats at the kennel where we got her. But she chased the cat we had at home any time he came around. I'm sure not to hurt him, but he didn't know that, so he ran.

i have a jackrussel and chickens, she does fine. she did kill one once, but she learned.
my grandpas lab likes to carry them around, he is more of the problem. lol he just carries em around the yard, although he killed one once
