Hi! I posted earlier today about my lethargic 19-week-old Welsummer pullet. Well, I'm pretty sure she actually has a beak injury that's causing her to not eat/drink and causing the lethargy.

Since she wasn't eating I went out to hand feed her but she only "pretended" to eat and drink. She'll put her beak down and make all the motions, but not actually pick anything up or dip her beak in water. Then I noticed her top beak looked shorter, and reddish/bloody, and it's a little sticky. It looks like the tip broke off? See the pictures from last month (left) and today (right). It's not significantly shorter, which is why I didn't notice right away, but it's much more obvious in the photos that something happened.

How do I treat a beak injury? It seems very painful for her to eat and drink. Can I give her any pain medication? I fed and watered her with a syringe today, but I need to get her eating and drinking a lot more on her own.

She's a really sweet girl, and really tolerant of me fussing with her, so anything I can do to help her I will. Thank you!

Beak injuries are very painful for a few days. It looks like she has been rubbing her beak on chicken wire or something similar and has skinned it. I would keep offering fluids and mushy wet chicken feed often.
That seems likely. She could have gotten it stuck in the hardware cloth of the run trying to grab a bug or something.

I will keep giving her mushy food and hopefully the pain subsides soon.

Thank you for the links!
