Bear boards are a bit hit and miss. One would think it would deter them, but I've known bears to go through barb wire fencing (3-4 layers deep) around garbage bins. We may try some out though, we'll see.

We did build the ark with bears in mind and reinforced it well. It's just that, as I said, if a bear is determined.....nothing short of bullet is going to stop him. On the plus side, somebody is at home 99% of the time, so we're usually here to deal with intruders.

We use the bear banger cartridges for our shotgun (not the launcher as described above). Basically it is non-lethal, louder than firing an actual lethal shotgun round, and scares off the bear as if you had fired a regular shell.

I'm so glad you and your livestock are all right. We have black bears and the busy season for them is over (hoping). It's my big fear because as you know there are few coops on earth that can keep one out- thank goodness you were on the spot!

We have bears out where we are and they scare the jeebies out of me!! Thank goodness I haven't come face to face, and God bless the hunters that hunt on the adjacent property, but still, it's pretty scary!
