Bearded Ee won’t lay

Hey Folks,

Bought some “used” Easter eggers off Kijiji for sale site. Beauty birds, but after a month, still no eggs. I realize moving them in January and with only 2 birds in the existing flock, they may be a little stressed.

Thought perhaps a couple of weeks with no eggs should be expected, but now a month later, still no eggs from them.

Could they still be stressed? How long do I give them before I need to make changes in the flock?

Are you sure how old the gals are?? Maybe weren't laying before the move.

IMO one month is well enough time to get over a move/stress.

How's the weather and length of daylight there now?

Location for climate.
Number and ages of birds?
Sizes of coop and run, in feet by feet?
What and how exactly are you feeding?

Likely it's the time of year....days are too short yet for older birds, and EE's are sometimes not the most prolific layers.

A month may be long enough to acclimate if there is a good amount of space in your coop and run, if they are crowded they may well still be stressed.

Seller said they were laying well but had reduced a bit with the deep cold spell...it’s February after all so cold, but getting milder and the days getting longer...

We’re close to Kingston Ontario Canada, so still winter here. Coop, I’ve been told is quite spacious, 8x12, with coop on stilts over half of it. We’ve got perches mounted and they seem to like that spot. Was told when we bought them they were only a little ice a year old. I’ve got 2 red sex link birds coming 3 years old, they lay better than these younger bearded ones, but then, any is better..egg layer feed, kernel corn every morning, lots of water, heat lamp and covered run...

Also, 5 of these newbies...plus the two old girls, so 7 in total, small flock

I got 3 EE girls in mid Winter previous owner said they are not laying due to cold I give them layer pellets and oyster shells fresh water twice a day after 3 days of oyster shells everyone of my birds started laying I have 12 hens and 3 muscovy girls I get 15 eggs a day without missing a beat since beginning of December
My ducks should not be laying it's crazy I got eggs coming out if my ears lol if the cold effects laying it doesn't on my street lol

So your covered run is 8x12, and enclosed coop is 6x8?
With 7 birds, the space seems good.

Layer feed and corn might be low on protein,
depending on the protein content of layer feed.

Still winter here too, but days are getting longer,
some of my EE's still aren't back in lay.

Are their combs/wattles bright red??? Do they squat for you???
