Beat this record! How long broody stays with chicks? Pics!

Man I wish I had a picture of my girl Sylvia. She hatched 3 chicks in October 09 - she kicked the cockerel to the curb at 4 months but up until September was still sleeping with her girl "chicks" and at times would share a nest box with them. She (Sylvia) is just now NOT sleeping with them and has stopped laying eggs with them

Here she is in Feb 2010 with her girls - she had just started to distance her cockerel. She is a SL Cochin and her girls are Orp/EE crosses (cockerel behind is not hers)

Ha Ha! I know! You'd think they'd spread out a little! I'll try to post more pics in the coming days, before she bails on them!

Some hens keep their babies for 2 weeks, some keep them for 4 months... the longest I had was till I sold her single baby at 3 months old and proceded to cry for a few days in search of the young pullet...then you have this one hen, who decided she wanted to be a chick after watching a broody raise babies...and figured the rooster would suffice.

She does this daily... and will not hesitate to stand up under him, causing Caleb to lose his balance and bonk his beak on something.

Ok Suebee I will have to sort that for you but its 22.27 here and they are all in their beds for the night and its really cold and Dark so perhaps tomorrow - I have to get a camera. Promise I will try to get another shot. ( I just asked DH if he would get me photos of Bertha tomorrow and he said he would - I told him it was for the compatition and he laughed and said she should win that one alright - we will see if your girl stays longer.) I think Bertha will lose interest now she is back with the other hens???? Or not. I deffinately think if it was cuteness yours would WIN they are just puff balls I want one - can they see???? I mean through all the fluff!!!! Bit like my Dog all fluff !!!

Oesdog - Yeah she is still sitting on them tonight in the coop.
I will try to get a photo about 7/8 pm tomorrow but remember your way behind us time wise I thinnnk 5 hrs!!!!

I have two chicks from the incubator. They were hand hatched day 27 and day 28. Cream legbar Rooster first then little Cuckoo Maran pullet. She always sleeps under the roo boy. These two are a week younger than Berthas chicks. She would not take them on and because they little Cuckoo Maran has been so ill on and off they have been indoors a lot and well pampered so haven't had a mummy hen. The wee pullet thinks the Roo will do . I wonder if she will always do this???? The same as your she gets under him and flicks him off his feet. Also if she is ill and lays down he stands over her and wont leave her. If I take one up the other cries for it. I am hoping to mate them when they get older if the pullet pulls through and is strong enough as the Legbar has the Blue egg gene and I want to introduce that into my flock.

Oesdog - pic of chicks are lovely!!!!!!!!

Oh that's got to be the funniest "broody" pic ever!!! Maybe the roo just wanted to go Hen-back-riding? Get it? Like horse back riding....OK, that was dumb.

Actually the broody in my pics will do that to another rooster too, only thing is there all up on a shelf to roost so they both go tumbling down.
