Beat this record! How long broody stays with chicks? Pics!

Lola and Fifi are tied...12 weeks each. Next spring both will compete for the Golden Broody Trophy.
Don't know why I wasn't notified of new posts but love the stories of your broodies holding out longer than the 6 week average.
I'm trying to let other hens have a turn if they've always been calm and collected. I gave Gaga a shot but she only lasted 7 weeks before waving the white flag of freedom.

Yeah - hope that these go all the way to 18 weeks and beyond!!!!!!! I am rooting for you!

I remember when Bertha was brooding and we got to the "normal" time for her to be leavig the babies. We noticed that she had no intention of giving up. We actually took the babies away! After that Bertha went mad and I couldn't cope anymore I felt utterly rotten and mean. Poor Bertha was making the most awful noise and just would not stop. I never thought I would hear a hen cry but it was the darndest noise like sobbing. It was just cruel to take them and maybe that is why she never let up for so long! I don't think I could ever "force seperate again!" But then I know more about hens now than I did back then.

So just encourage your girls and let them do their own thing in their own time. Hopefully it will be longer than Bertha!

I soooo miss the old girl.

Oes
