Thanks for the input! We're going to build more laying boxes and probably get rid of him.

We have several nesting boxes for our 20 hens, and they all lay in ONE.

Go figure.

They can be quite goofy about laying.
I have 3 boxes, each one gets used. One of my BO girls hogs the middle one, she is quite demanding when there is a need to lay her egg.
I do have a SLW who is a quite a Nervous Nellie and she absolutely refuses to lay in a box. Nothing I have tried works. She has a beautiful nest made in the back corner of the coop and her egg is there everyday

(No it's not dirty, she fluffs and preens her nest everyday too). No one bothers her nest, even Charlie the cockerel doesn't go there.
I just leave her be.
