Becoming single, taking on more chickens

After the day I have had this is all I can offer sorry!
I am so very sorry that you are having such a rough time of it all but as I always say...The sun still shines even on a rainy day...you just have to look a bit harder to find it. You seem to be finding the sunshine in your storm and I hope that things continue to get better for you.

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who had words of encouragement for me. Even knowing that others are in similar situations, although sad - seems comforting somehow.
I hung art and photographs up at the new house, and it felt like home... I'm excited for a new start. If my dad can see me now, he'd be happy that I'm on the right path & he'd also be thrilled that I'm raising chickens like we did when I was a kid.

Sounds like you've had a rough go of it recently. So sorry about your dad, next week will make two years since I lost mine. It leaves a whole in your heart.
So will your kids be visiting with their dad(s) from time to time?
Kids need both a dad (and a mom) and you will need a break from time to time.

I think many of us ask, "Where did I come from?", "Why am I here?, What is my purpose in life?"... "Where will I go when this life is over?"
Know that there are certain and sure answers to those questions.
God lives and that's the beginning of finding those answers.

So sorry to hear of both your losses Silkiefan and wildorchid053. My Dad's health has been deteriorating the last few months and I am terrified at the thought of losing him! I feel for you both! Silkiefan, I was a single Mom for 14 years and loved it! There are a LOT of advantages to being single! My hubby now loves to tell the story of how hard it was to catch me but what can I say? I really did love being single!
It probably would have been different if I hadn't had kids. I loved the close relationship I had with my kids when they were growning up. They are all grown now but we still have a bond that I don't see in a lot of families. Life was harder in some ways. Money was always tight so vacations were usually a couple of nights in a campground, that and I can barely look at a package of top ramen anymore without feeling a little sick, but I look back on those years with great fondness and so do my children (for the most part). They are both hard workers since they had to do more chores than kids that had "stay at home Moms" but I think that's a great quality in a person.
You sound like you are an intelligent person with a great outlook. I have no doubts that you will do well in your new life. Just remember the only true failures are those folks that are too afraid to try anything new. The rest of us are success stories that have just had a few setbacks along the way.
The biggest favor you can do for your kids is to teach them that life and people are not perfect but how much fun the challenges it throws at us can be. You should take great pride in your abilities to make the tough decisions and grow with them!

You'll be ok, I can tell. I made the choice to be single when Steven was 6 weeks old now he's 18. It's been a long hard haul in places but in others it's been wonderful! I'll pack a dog a son and a sleeping bag and hit the road. Now I'm looking at reinventing myself again, and I know I can do it. I'm proud of you!
I admire your courage...you've got what it takes. Good Luck to you and your kids.
