bedding for chicks

i put news paper down and then put paper towels over it. i read news paper could cause problems.with there legs i also read wood shaving arent safe. thanks for the help

I've raised hundreds of chicks on pine shavings and never had a problem. Good absorbency and odor control. Straw bedding for chicks is a pain the butt.

Chicks naturally have the instinct to scratch and dust bathe, I want to encourage healthy active behavior especially in meat chicks, so I use the shavings.
