My chickens seem to like to pick through the new pine bedding after it's put down. Apparenlty eating some of it. Should this be concerning? It 's the kind you get at any local feed store. Not much information on the bag label.

They have plenty of fresh feed nearby, so it's not due to hunger. Thanks for the input and experience.

My girls do the same thing.
I think they are just making sure no food is in that new stuff & rearranging it to their liking.
Eating a few pine shavings shouldn't be a problem.

Mine will do the same thing, too. They also love eating the fresh hay that I put down along with the pine shavings.

As long as they don't eat too much of it (which could cause impacted crop...but again, only if they eat A LOT of it), it shouldn't hurt them.
