Bedtime for chickens

When should I put my chickens in at night to keep them from getting eaten by raccoons and other predators.....

I would think as soon as you (the caretaker of chicken) go inside the house for the night.

I have several poultry areas to tend to, so I don't wait for dark to fuss with doors and latches. So I go out about a half hour before dark and start getting everybody in their coops, pens, hutches and what ever else they sleep in. Then I know everybody is safe and enclosed before dark.

The chickens will put themselves to bed usually a bit after sunset. Just watch them to make sure they all head in, then close the door after them.
