Beeesssss

I have a row of Rose of Sharon trees and they were loaded with flowers. I don't think I say more than one or two bees on them. One year I pollinated squash by hand. I really need bees in this yard. We have three acres or thereabouts. I will call around and check to see if there might be a problem having a hive.

I keep getting an "error" message and ending up with double postings. What's up with that?

I've been keeping bees as a hobby for close to 20 years now and I also work with a commercial beekeeper. It can be expensive and labour intensive, especially if you only have a single hive. You mention that you have a local club...I suggest you contact them and offer to let them set a hive or 2 in your yard. In exchange, they can show you the details involved in keeping a colony healthy and thriving.

Once you have had a hive in your yard for a season, you can determine if you want to try it on your own. But I warn you, keeping bees can become just as obsessive as raising chickens.

BTW Rose of Sharon bushes are not native to the US and honey bees don't really care for them. Bumble bees seem to like them, but bumble bees are more generalists than honey bees.

Well heaven knows I don't need another obsession.
