Been visited by mink. at what point do i get a live trap

All chicken owners need a coop knox, a live trap, and a .22.
They really should sell those supplies next to the chick bins at TSC instead of that chicken wire they always put out

Or try feeding your cats indoors. If you leave pet food outside, you will attract wildlife. One woman up in the Sierra had a large dog door. She essentially "baited" a black bear right into her house.

Hi. I found the only thing that works for me is wire. Chicken wire and rabbit wire( they call it hardware cloth now). Weasels have the same abilities as mice, cats and raccoons. They can flatten their bodies down to unimaginable sizes. Traps for me ,only catch one or two. Then it seems like the rest of the family catches on and avoids the trap. Thanks.

You won't have any doubt if a weasel visits your chicken coop as they will kill anything and everything in a frenzy, may eat a little off the necks but will for the most part just go for the blood! Both weasels and mink are not too hard to catch in a #1 size steel trap. Just make your set where your chickens can't get in it. Hope you get 'em!

thanks to all for your continued replies.

i don't know what a no. one steel trap is. but in MA (wackos-ville) about all you can use are live traps. and i can';t become a licensed trapper. so it's live traps for me or nothing...........

check with dnr homeowner/landowners experiencing damage are treated different then trappers

No they are not. Here in wackoville massachusetts ALL leg hold body traps are illegal. You need to get a special permit AFTER you demonstrate your loss of income. Then you can PAY a specially licensed trapper to get rid of your problems. The going rate is 100-150 per trap

Feeding wild animals will do nothing but encourage them to den nearby and return everyday......Raccoons multiply pretty fast and with real food [ chickens ] versus cat food which do you think they will take first.....?.......There is also what is know as raccoon roundworm, which the eggsacks are passed with the feces and any animal will sniff the poo and contract it...Small children have ingested it aswell and can be fatal in small children....Not to mention distemper, rabies and so on.......The point is there is no peace offering with wild animals........I do animal damage control work and have seen many raccoons living in chimneys and attics even under homes..Not to mention skunks are also very attracted to pet food especially bird seed [ sunflower seeds ]..........I've seen coon tear the soffit out to get into homes and even cross a 12 inch tall electric net put around a garden to get at the goodies.....

Not trying to scare you, but to instead, inform you.........If any predator visit my coop,,they will be removed period........
