Little Phoenix on Nov 17th, whom I rescued from a horrible chicken-mill operation. He was loose on the ground running around a foul-smelling pen with bigger birds, it was freezing cold and I knew he would die if left there, his body was bare to the skin. I think he was only 3 or 4 weeks old at the time:

A few days later, in the house after de-lousing:

Early December, starting to grow some pin-feathers finally:

Then he was weak and limping and not moving much, so around Dec 7th I brought him in the house again for rest & warmth... This pic was just before I discovered he had a massive infestation of round worms (which is why he was not gaining any weight):

Towards the end of December, slowly getting better:

Jan 3rd, after one week of being back in the coop:

I will not give up on these birds, I will not. They had a very rough and inhumane start to life but now they have all the chances in the world to make it into healthy adults, they are very much loved, spoiled and part of the family.

Yes, I brought 4 birds home: two EE roos (they were supposed to be pullets...) and two blue cochins.

One EE roo is Phoenix.
One EE roo is Sunshine, I have a thread going on right now on his condition - he's doing poorly with bronchitis after suffering through lice, an eye infections and worms. I almost ended his life but decided I had to continue fighting for him.

The two cochins are girls are are doing well, they were in another section of the "farm" so perhaps in a better situation. They also had lice and worms, have been treated for both and growing into nice girls

Phoenix is his name, he's an Easter Egger.

We thought he was a girl at first and had named her Faith, but after everything he's been through it's like Phoenix rising through the ashes to be reborn, you know? And he's the color of ashes!
