My eggs will be arriving soon. My question to you, is what are the top three things you wished you had from the start?

I was advised to switch the incubator on 2days before you put the eggs in this allows you to make sure it's working at the correct temperature and humidity
I was also told to place the eggs facing pointed down for 12:hrs prior to putting into incubator so the internals are settled from there transportation
Most incubator need to have the water checked every two days to keep humidity correct

Once you have your eggs incubating
The next thing is a brooder
The size required is dependent on number of chicks hatched
Make sure the top is covered by a mesh to prevent chicks escaping
A source of water and food has to be available just be carefull the water is shallow so chicks don't fall in and drown
Some form of heating provided
A heat lamp or heat / brooder plate
Next is the bedding material
I tend to use sand rather than wood shaving as it's easy for their feet to become covered by a hardened of chick poop

my simple brooder setup note I change the bedding to sand
