Beginner in Breeding Call Ducks Help

If you want to buy show quality pairs, look now. Most show breeders will not sell ducklings or eggs and only sell birds in the fall once they can determine the quality of them.

Barry Roberts is a big call guy here in Maine but I haven't found him to be very helpful and hes not so great about returning messages (maybe hes just busy, but I've tried discussing calls with him numerous times over the last 5 years). Maybe you will have better luck than me, lol. I only show and breed for fun as I like fun colors and patterns rather than the same old varieties you see at all the shows!

Nice to see other New England people raising calls! I haven't really seen of anyone else so it's really cool. Anyways, thank you for the input! This will be my first winter with calls and I'm definitely looking for quality breeding pairs right now, so if you or anyone knows of any available I'd be happy to take a look!

Anyways, the usual colors are nice but you birds are also really unique! I love that gray and mottled kind of black on them!

And thank you, I'll definitely see if Barry Roberts can help (or will respond haha)

I love my calls!

Calls are the best!

My Lady Grey... :D

For a pair, you can make a simple rasied pen for them for breeding time... @shawluvsbirds made one that is very like what many breeders use...

Calls winter very well, just as long as they have a dry, draft-free, well-ventilated, secure house... a cement mixing tub, or even a Dollar Store oil pan is just fine for their bathing needs too, if a full kiddie pool is not doable... they really don't need a lot of water like bigger ducks...

This thread has me excited! I have 5 calls, 2 being handsome drakes. The girls have just began laying, not often or regularly however, so I assume it will really kick off once spring rolls around. I really want more babies, because I am hooked on calls! I want more colors too. I have 2 snowy girls, and 2 black bibbed, one male and one female, and a pastel/butterscotch? drake( his match got eaten by my dog
:he
