I have no idea what predators you have. My suggestion would be to get what you want.

Make sure you flock is well protected because most everything likes chicken.

If you're on the Hilo side, predators are dogs, cats, hawks, mongoose & humans. It's been awhile since your first post, assuming you found some hens? I do recommend you build your coop before getting any chicks. Members here are helpful and some very experienced with raising. Best of wishes

Check out CL ... Candi is a good resource and help others rehome their flock plus she bring in chicks through out the year. Dels have their Chick Days, depending on the weather usually for a month in February, March or April. Paradise Poultry (HPP) & Purple Coop (Pahoa) are two that I know of.
