Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

Day 20 and I just got my first girl out!
Tried to post the video onto the thread here but it didnt work. If anyone is interested in seeing her hatch the video is right here on my facebook page
Even if you dont have a facebook you can still see it :)

She's very energetic- Got out of the egg after only about 7 hours after pipping, and she still hasnt really settled down! She's trying her best to get around the incubator and making a ton of racket.
I'm in love already!

I am having a very hard time leaving the incubator closed! The chicks are knocking the other eggs around and climbing on top of them... Going to sit on my hands now.

We have 4 chicks. A fifth one pipped but died before it got out :( it started on the under side of the egg and I didn't notice until one of the chicks bumped it. Makes me sad. We started with 18 eggs. 10 didn't make it to lock down. I'm glad we got some to hatch on our first try. The 3 eggs left don't look like they have a live chick inside. I candled last night and couldn't see any movement.

Day 24 with no action. We officially give up at 3pm tomorrow but in my heart I've pretty much given up now. I never really got an answer about the float test but depending on the different blogs I read I either had no viable eggs yesterday, one viable or six. Sigh.

When that happened to us, we figured out the thermometer was giving a false reading. I would give it to day 25 also, you never know!

So sorry for the losses.

thanks everyone! I am leaving it until 3pm on day 25 but then I'd have to choose between leaving them until day 28 or taking them out as they're at the school. Any thoughts on that?

I would give up just because I would want the heartbreak to be over. I just talked to my one friend and she said the first year she did it with her class no eggs hatched. It happens :( I'm so sorry for you and the kiddos.
