Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

Candled my remaining 26 LF Cochin eggs last night on day 14. I removed 5 that were clear leaving me with 21 of my original 45. Of the remaining, I saw movement in the majority. There are still 3 that Im still unsure about. Overall, if the 18 that were moving hatch, I'll be a very happy camper! :D

I candled last night too. Again, not all of them, but one was definitely growing with veins and an embryo and the other was too dark to see. One looked clear, but I left it in anyway. I'm getting super excited!

There is nothing like the smell of a rotten egg! I decided to candle a couple tonight and the first one I picked up was dark inside. Today is day 5 and I was sitting there trying to figure out why I couldn't see any light through it and then I started feeling something wet and smelled something so outside it went. We cracked it and it was so nasty! Green and black and that smell that you just can't get out of your nose! Candled 6 more and that was the only one I found today. I will do another row of eggs tomorrow, hoping no more stinkers but glad to get that one out.

I can't imagine how bad! The one sloshy egg I had I double bagged and warned everyone in the house not to manhandle the trash can.
Hated to open it but I had to know for sure. Even as I saw the green stuff coming out I thought there was part of a chick but I was wrong. Now I feel the need to candle everything over the next few days to make sure there aren't any others like that.

I suspected at the day 14 candle it would be a quitter and at lockdown it was obviously under developed, but let it ride. No explosion, so I think an egg would have to be pretty bad - like from day 1 - to explode.

I think rotten egg is one of the worst smells out there!
