I'm totally new to chickens and have 4 lovely girls that I got as day old chicks on 7/10/08 - 2 BRs, 1 glw and a australorp. I live in New England and am not adding light to the coop, so I assumed that I wouldn't begin getting eggs until the days got longer - but last week my australorp started laying!! I know that australorps are especially prolific egg-layers, but I'm wondering how soon the other girls might begin to lay? Since they were all born on the same day, is there any way to predict when the BRs and glw might begin to lay?

They usually start around 6 months of age, give or take a month or 2. So I would say your other girls will start up in the next month or so.

It really depends on the chicken itself !!! Like you said with the short days it could take a little longer !! By spring everyone should be laying !!
