I need some help if possible,
I have 4 geese. I had 3 earlier this year 2-18 yr olds brother/sister/mates Jordan and Reebok and an older rescue boy Oliver that I took in 9 years ago.

In the Spring I contacted many rescues trying to find an older female for Oliver as his mate died several years ago and he spent much of his time sedentary with a plastic statue.
I ended up buying a female just under a year from a place called Blue Egg Farm. She was slated for someone's dinner this Fall.
Things have been fine I thought until recently.
Jordan wasn't doing well. I took him to one vet and then another. He stayed at the one for days along with Reebok and Oliver.
Daisy the new goose was friendly while they were gone.
I'm still watching Jordan closely. I have spent over 1600.00 on these guys in two weeks. Well actually I owe part of it still.
To get to the heart of this,
This morning I let the geese out and all seemed fine.
I went out to give them their treats and as Jordan and Reebok came to me Daisy came up also and suddenly spread her wings and flew at Jordan knocking him over. As he stood up she went after him again.
I put her and Oliver back in the barn with the screen doors closed.
After a few hours I let them back out.
Here is what I am observing. Jordan seems scared of her. When the three of them get in the pond she immediately tries to take over Reebok and keeps Jordan at bay.
She is displaying male behaviors in front of Jordan but when she is put back in with Oliver she is totally submissive.
This is the first I've seen of this behavior but I'm working all day so you never know what goes on. She has previously been very good with Jordan but I have noticed lately that at night when they come in he stays out of her way but I thought it was because of Oliver.
I brought her in and checked her wondering if the seller and myself miss sexed her but when you open the vent nothing pops out.
In the past it seems that I've noticed that the boys swim with their tails higher in the water than the girls. Has anyone noticed this?
That's how she(?) was swimming today and very protective/possessive of Reebok.
I am going to have to re home her either way because I will not have Jordan displaced in his own home by a goose that's been here 3 months.
I am still struggling with getting him well and now wondering if that's why his tail was suddenly crooked in one day.

I need a new home for Daisy regardless of sex.
These geese are taken very good care of. They each have a water bucket and bowl of their own. They have wading pools and an insulated heated barn.
I can give vet references.
If anyone in the Ohio Cleveland/ Medina./Lorain area can give a goose a good home please let me know.
She is not for the supper table, a pet flock only, she just can't stay here.
Thank you,
Linda

Hi and
welcome-byc.gif
are they Embden? looking at your avatar it's hard to tell. Daisy does sound like she is acting ganderish. if they have been away though could that be the problem. I'm so sorry your having to deal with this but if you'll post this in the Ohio thread on BYC at "Where am I Where are you" there maybe someone in your surrounding area that may like to have her. Also she could be picking up on Jordan being sick. I hope you can find a solution to all of this and Jordan gets well. All the best.

Thank you for the welcome and for the information.
I've been here for a while but only checked out information.
Thank you for the advice - I did post under Ohio Where am I where are you.

Again Thank you,
Linda

your goose being young will help alot,.

I am hoping that maybe as people read this someone may have some insight into what happened.
I have never given away one of my animals. I am going to have her positively sexed by Jordan and Reebok's vet.
If she is a girl I may try to figure out what happened and if there is a fix besides splitting the yard.

Thanks.
Linda

I hope so too, then maybe you can keep her.

there are some very knowledgable geese folks on here but they are watching this tropical storm right now, Hopefully Celtic or Mrs. Magoo 1 will be on shortly and can help. I have only had 1 gander for the last 5yrs and just recently got him a 4month old mate so we are having our own set of problems since he has been raised with ducks. But things can work out and I hope they do for your geese.

I didn't notice this until today.
I have seen Daisy get irritated with both Jordan and Oliver for not breeding her in the pond. She does the bill dipping thing and then acted like she might try to mount them when they wouldn't mount her. But why would Jordan even engage her when she first came if she was a boy.
I just thought my guys were too old to be really interested.
Jordan and Reebok used to mate all the time in the pond but not for years now.
Today was the first time I really notice the tail high thing but it's what I've seen in the boys.
I don't know, I'm confused.

PS I have a female Doberman named Franki same spelling but she's definitely a she.

Okay let me get this straight, Jordan and Reebok are male- female? and you got daisy for Oliver. How is daisy with Oliver?

I am also confused. Are Reebok and Oliver a mated pair, and Jordan was a lone gander? If so, it seems to me that your issue may be one of preference. Since Daisy is calm around Oliver, she may have decided that she likes him better than Jordan.
If this is the case, her bullying of Jordan may be construed as her fending off unwanted attention from him. Other than separating her from the other male and placing her in an area with only Jordan, I have no idea what to do. I think we need Celtic's input on this one. I am not sure if the rain has eased up on her end: She was dealing with torrential downpours from one of the feeder bands and a bobcat at the same time.
