Yesterday, one of the chicks is missing at dusk, and I look all over the place - acres, not a pen! - for a hiding 10 week old that is on the wild side in the pouring rain (so grateful for the rain every step of the way as we are struggling with drought) and finally give her up as Gone, lock the coop and go to bed... but this morning open the coop door and out she comes with the others. ??? I thought maybe she buried herself between the big hens, but so unlikely as none of this clutch is buddies with the big panty girls yet. Tonight the same thing. Everyone where they should be but Annie is nowhere to be seen. I look between the hens, under the rooster, in every corner and I can't find her. Until I do. Always, all your life, for whatever reason, remember to look up.

Lol! I totally had a similar experience. First night in a new coop, Went to tuck the girls in and one is missing, looked everywhere, came in the house to rally the kids to help look for her (she is kinda the favorite of everyone) and finally found her roosting on top of the window on about a one inch ledge. Have no idea how she got herself up that high, or how she was able to stay there once up!

I know this question does not belong in this topic, but I'm in love with the size of your coop!
Where would a buy a coop like that, and how much would it cost? I need a very large size, as I would really like to expand my flock.

Now for my funny behavior:
I LOVE watching my hens dustbathe. I think it is so funny the way they roll onto their back, and flap their wings and ruffle their feathers. Even the hens that don't get along great make a truce to dustbathe together. XD

I have one little Cuckoo Maran pullet (12.5 weeks old now) who insists on going to roost each night on top of the open coop door, instead of on one of the many branches I have across the coop for roosting, where all the others go.

The door is a human sized wooden door made from 1x4s and I keep it open all day by a loop of twine attached to the wall behind it, so the breeze or other chickens passing by moves it a little.

Roxie knows that every night I come in after they get settled and I have to reach up and carefully lift her off the door, which wobbles as I do this, then she complains while I carry her over to the roosts with the others and get her settled in before I close the door to the coop and go home. I swear she just wants the extra bit of attention each night!! :gig

I got my girls as 6-8week pullets at the local feed store so they weren't very people friendly. My backyard is shaped like a letter b and we blocked off the top part for the chickens with the square/circle part for ourselves. Well whenever I'm in 'their' section of the yard they like to follow me around. But everytime I turn around they either scatter or pretend they weren't following me. Soon as I turn back they follow me again.
It's been a few months now so they don't play pretend anymore, but all rush me as soon as they see me opening the gate in hopes I'm bringing food.

Love it. When I put the chickens to bed I usually feed them just before. I was doing a head count and a small hen called Donk was missing. She's a professional tree huger so I start searching the trees. I know she isn't far because she came for her dinner. It was when I picked up the bucket that I carry the food in I noticed Donk sitting in the bucket stuffing her face.

I have one chicken that when it sees someone walking towards the run, it will jump up and try to cling to the hardware cloth. It is hilarious to watch, but I worry that she will get a claw stuck in it

Unfortunately I have a run of 8 young roosters right now ( cockerels), they are so funny when I walk up most stand so tall and puff up all ready to defend ,
Once I’m in there talking to them they stare for a minute then hunker down again a resume scrounging ,

Too much fun, too bad they’re going to be fattened up for rooster soup

@Michellep224 - I bought a "frame kit" - search Fast Framer Northern Tool and you can see a picture of what the finished shed is. The kit is just the metal things that the 2 x 4's go in, no lumber. I had to buy the lumber & the plywood, I bought the door & window at Habitat for Humanity Thrift store. A neighbor gave me left over tin for the roof. Unless you are really handy, this turned out much harder than I thought it would be and the instructions in the kit were pretty useless. I'm thinking of doing a photo story on the Coops Forum, because even tho it was not easy, it was fun and I'm proud of the outcome!
Thank you @cheekiechickie - I had fun painting it - in fact I've not finished it yet!
