Granted, almost all zombie flicks chronicle the tale of disparate survivors banding together to embody all that's good about humanity -- with the occasional self-serving jerk who ultimately gets killed, of course, serving to warn us against being selfish -- but frankly, I find that scenario HIGHLY unlikely.. I tend to think a carload of people might just show up at my door if they see smoke from a woodstove or a nice garden in full production, and they might not be interested in sharing so much as TAKING.
It may be necessary to turn them away for lack of supplies and accomodations, but what if they won't take no for an answer....do you start killing survivors who won't leave you alone? Do you camoflouge everything and hide the gardens to make it look like nobody lives there? Do you set up perimeters and just start sniping anything that crosses the line?
Might end up with a scenario more out of The Stand rather than out of a zombie flick.
Though I'm confident we will be smarter than those folks. I mean, come on? Boulder Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada? How about some place that has fresh water, doesn't have to difficult rocky terrain, and has fertile, arable landscape?
I wouldn't turn folks away for lack of supplies and accomodations. I'd go raid the local Cabela's and Menards, hand them a shovel, a tent, and a sleeping bag and point them towards a non-tilled area. I would turn them away for violence and laziness. This bit o' land has only one room for a lazy individual prone to violence, and I was here first.
