Getting down to the nitty gritty details, if you're gonna have a garden plot to grow your own food over more than one season, you need either a stockpile of seeds/tubers or you can only grow open-pollinated plants so seeds can be saved. There's no mail order from Burpee during TEOTWAWKI.
