Believe in ghosts?, whats your wierdest/scariest story?

I vividly remember a night a few years ago, when I woke up and saw unmistakable figure of a man leaning over me. I remember being very very very scared.
I also used to see flashes of white light go across my field of vision, back when my sister (who was anorexic at the time, and highly unstable) regularly saw demonic things... The light always comforted me, it felt like.

I don't see auras but I can feel them. I can sense spirit's moods as well. If an angry spirit is near, I get grumpy and moody and if a positive spirit is near I'm more cheery. Sometime I swear I can feel my grandmother comforting me like she did when I was young. I lost her a 7 years old. I found out the day she died and the time was the exact time I had a weird flash back/ daydream that wasn't mine

I get those feelings often. And I'm always feeling like I'm being watched when I leave the house.

At the time, I was afraid to fly but for my honeymoon my husband to be insisted I try to overcome my fear. I was married September 9, 2001. In the early morning of September 11th I woke up sweating and had a dream of my deceased Grandma dressed in a white long robe with gold crosses on them. She was standing in the forest at night holding out a firefly, handing it to me. The dream then switched to me standing on a hill with the Virgin Mary walking up the hill towards me with three shephards. I woke my husband up and told him we couldn't go it was a warning. He felt I was just nervous. Although I had hives all along my neck that morning I got in the car and drove to the airport with my husband and brother-in-law. On the turnpike I saw the first tower on fire and then saw the second get hit. We almost got into an accident. Sadly, I watched the first tower fall from the airport parking lot after we were evacuated from Newark. My heart broke and the silence was worse. Two of my friends were on planes that morning and I didn't know if they were safe.

As soon as we returned home I looked up my dream and the interpetation was death would be all around. The part of the dream with the Virgin Mary was protection. I have never forgotten this. I did eventually take a flight for me honeymoon the following October and I wasn't afraid to go.

ghosts? no but I do believe that are angels and demons. That being said to those of you who are inviting these into their lives please be careful. Demons are crafty and only want one thing from you, your soul. I personally would not encourage anyone to seek out something supernatural since it can lead to some bad things.

And, as you say, my friend perceives a hornworm to be a monster. I, being color blind, cannot see the hornworm among the foliage. We are both incorrect as to what is in reality -- I see nothing, my friend sees a monster, but in reality, it's an insect.

What science DOES know is that there are many instances when a person can receive bits of information via the senses, and that person's mind fills in the gaps to come up with something. Visual illusions are an excellent example. Other experiments involve priming a person with a series of related words, and then showing incomplete drawings. Depending on the series of related words used, individuals will perceive different images from the same drawings. Thus, as you point out, different people will perceive different things from the same bit of information. But why do you claim that because some people "fill in the gaps" to create a ghost that they are correct, while those who "fill in the gaps" to say "oh, that sound was an owl...there is a storm coming, so that explains the random gust of air, etc."?

You are free to continue to believe what you wish, and you may genuinely feel the sensations that cause your mind to come to the conclusion that ghosts exist. However, none of that is sufficient to prove that they do.

The stories are entertaining to read, however, so keep 'em coming.

I know some things have changed since I was in school (a far better system back then) but science was based on facts and all other conclusions were speculation or theory. Now days science has been replaced by speculation repeated enough that it is becomes truth,(to the willingly ignorant) hardly science though. Ghost fall in the speculation column... for most folks.

True, and what facts bring people to the conclusions that what they see are ghosts? Some say that it is up to science to prove that supernatural things don't exist. I say it is up to the believers to prove they do.

Excuse me, but speaking of fantasies, your "Jefferson quote" cannot be found by the scholars at Monticello. Fascinating that.

Status: We have not found this quotation in any of Jefferson's known writings.

Thank you for the correction. I have never seen the site you referenced, and found it fascinating. I can't wait until I have more time to go through it, as I do believe that Jefferson was one of the more brilliant of our founding fathers. I have substituted a new quote I found on that site, now knowing that the one I used cannot be found among his writings per se.
