Humans made and support the use of AI. It is a tool causing incredible environmental destruction. People get shiney eyed about this tool but it really is horrendous and unneccessary. In fact it will set human development back centuries as you essentially sub out critical thought to a computer.

When I saw some concerns about artificial intelligence on the forum, I wanted to share a few thoughts.

I actively use artificial intelligence in my incubation project. Maybe this way, I make fewer mistakes and learn to think from different perspectives. Let me say this on my behalf; ChatGPT does not only provide information like Google, but also tries to understand the logic behind my questions. This encourages me to question more.

Yes, the impact of artificial intelligence on the environment or the human mind may be debatable. But let's not forget, the internet, phones, and even writing on this forum consume electricity. How we use these tools is actually the real determining factor.

Let me be frank, artificial intelligence inspires me. I do not feel alone while experimenting. It is as if I have a friend I can constantly consult. Of course, critical thinking is my own. But this friend makes my job easier.

In short, when we use AI in the right place and at the right dose, its benefits are great. Even in a simple but meticulous job like incubation, I get better results with its help. Maybe the point is to look at the intention of the person using it rather than blaming the vehicle...

The impact on the environment is not debateable. Its solid. Many people are shiny eyed about AI, I am not. People are subbing out social interaction and critical thought.
This virtual spectacle is destroying the actual planet on which we live and depend on to survive.
AI is explicitly functioning to the users detriment.

There is a ton of ignorance and misinformation regarding AI, and lots of fear mongering -- because fear mongering is a useful tool, let's not forget. Being used *widely* right now in the West, more than it has been in a long time. Also critical thinking is at all all-time low and emotional reactivity is at an all-time high.

Regarding AI art generators; there are good ones and there are bad ones. They are not all the same.

Remember, the *PAID* versions of AI are light years ahead of what is available publicly for free.

Midjourney (paid) is quite capable of making accurate representations;

Prompt: buckskin horse in a pasture, golden afternoon light, red barn in the background, style painterly

prompt: handdrawn stegosaurus

prompt: a realistic brontosaurus

prompt: realistic triceratops

The AI remembers that I prefer painterly and handdrawn art instead of realistic photographs, so it took 2 tries before it gave me 1 option that was more realistic. When you prompt, Midjourney gives 4 to choose from to 'upscale' to make larger and/or make more changes. It's quite good. But it's paid for. The free ones are garbage... and this includes the AI chat bots as well.

Gemini, Google's AI assistant, the paid version, is *outstanding* and is literally at this point a virtual assistant.
