Benny and Joon - playing Marco Polo ?

well, a couple weeks ago Benny and Joon (my geese) took a walk across the road (which is across my hayfield about a 1/4 mile away from the house). I had to go chase them back - never did figure out why they would take off in that direction - they hadn't shown any sign of leaving before that.

Well, today I caught them beginning their journey again, and we figured out WHY they were going that way....

They began by standing at the edge of the yard and honking VERY loudly towards the road. They did this for maybe 3 minutes, then started out towards the road - well, turns out their honking was echoing back from the ridge across the holler - they were off in search of those "other geese"

Took me a full half hour of standing guard in the driveway to convince them not to go

Now there's a problem I can't solve

I hope they don't do this very often - I'll be getting more excercise than I had planned on this summer.
