I'm crying but so happy because I love and miss Japan, and I love and miss traditional bento, and I am so thrilled to read through this thread.

You made my heart sing

PS I can only eat 4 oz of food at a time, so these would be like, a week's worth of food to me

PPS I have loved Hello Kitty since 1976!

It is, isn't it? I'd love but I'm afraid my fussy 1st grader wouldn't. I can manage to get him to eat healthy foods but they have to be pretty basic. Nothing too exotic.

These boxes are way smaller than they look. But yeah, I'm still overpacking for her. She usually finishes about 2/3 of what I send, then eats the rest on the way home from school. She takes one of the small compartments out for snack time at 10:00AM--today's snack was the pb crackers and raisins.

I've ordered her some smaller boxes from J-Box, so when those come I'll be able to send more little-girl-sized meals with her...but I'll have to pack a snack separately.

It's nothing fancy, what she eats, just creatively presented to (hopefully) make it more appealing. I was such a horrible eater as a kid, I feel really blessed to have a child who will try anything at least once. There's no accounting for what she will and won't eat, though. Spinach? Oh, yes. Peaches? No way!

Good for you guys for feeding your kids so healthily, and putting so much effort into it. It got so depressing teaching when i'd see the junk the school cafeterias poured into the kids. No wonder some of them acted out.

For a while, I kept track of the school's offering for each day, but then stopped when I realized it's essentially the same stuff every day. The only time so far I've felt bad was the day she told me that the kids who ate school lunch got ice cream sandwiches for dessert.

I wouldn't mind her having an ice-cream sandwich, but I can't pack that! I may need to stock treats like that for at home, after school.

So far, she hasn't said anything about wanting to eat lunch from the school cafeteria, though I'm sure that day is coming, somewhere down the line. I just hope she has good habits ingrained by then. I had TERRIBLE nutrition for most of my life (through no fault of my mother's--Lord knows she tried), and it caught up with me eventually.

Woot! DD (6) requested a bento this morning so I sent her with ne. We didn't have much, though so it wasn't pretty. She was thrilled, though!

Son (almost 9) requested one for Tuesday (half day tomorrow, no school Monday).

I just made an order from Ichiban Kan. Can't wait to get it! Super excited!
