Berks county chickenstock - Thanks scbatz!! Pics of new chickies!

This is cute ... The little chicks I got want to cuddle with Aflack .. I guess a young drake doesn't do motherhood well ....LOL
He runs from them ... and the bunny. Oh btw; guys I have a little 2 month old bunny we got yesterday. Named HERO.

My husband is being so tolerant ...lol

Hey I have a few ... not many at all pics of Chickenstock I'll post them here as I'm sure you guys are going to kill me. I suck at taking pictures ...lol

Thanks for a great day! I came home with my first three chickens-- a lavendar amaracuna (thanks Steph) and a barred rock and a blue orphington (thanks Sarah). They've settled into their new coop and run nicely and are really fun to watch. I had coffee with them in the run this morning and the barred rock jumped on my lap and let me pet her. Thanks everyone for answering all my questions, for selling me three wonderful chickens, and for getting me started. Sarah, thank you so much for your hospitality and all your hard work in putting things together.
One question-- Our coop has a large door that I can use to get in and clean and refresh food and water. There is also a small door with a ladder to the ground that I open in the morning to let them out. However, at night they don't seem to know how to use the ladder to go back in. I have to open the big door for them to go in. Should I keep opening the big door for them or should I just wait and force them to use the ladder? Thanks! Here's a picture of my three new hens.

Do they have access to the small door and ladder during the day? Mine go in and out all day long and like to play on the ladder. Maybe put some treats on it at other times than bedtime to make sure that they know that they can go in and out.

Then, if they do know what the ladder is for....they just might not want to go back in the coop at night and you will need to teach them to go inside. One suggestion that seemed to work for many is to have a light inside the coop at first. If you don't have electricity or feel that a light is safe, I would suggest one of those battery operated "closet" lights.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
BTW....nice barred rock. I love mine.

Thanks for the suggestions Thomas423. I put a flashlight into the coop tonight and the hens made it up the ladder into the coop and I shut them up for the night.

Ok Christine... Here is a bad pic of me ... to make you feel better. lol

Last night I couldn't sleep so I was up all night. Well AFLAK decided to keep me company and sat on my shoulder for about 4 hrs. he kept nuzzling my face. And I would raise a glass of water he would drink and do all those Ducky things, like dunk his head in.
