Besides Chickening..

Hey everyone,

I don't know you all as well as I would like to. I wish I had more time to spend on BYC!

I have been a member of the BYC message forum, in all its various incarnations, since I was 16 or 17. I am 23 now, so that's 6 or 7 years. I used to be a very active member, but life (work, kids, etc.) got in the way, as it tends to do.

I met my fiancee at work. He owned a plumbing company, and I was a plumbing apprentice. When I got pregnant I was transferred, and now I am a hot tub service technician.

I live with my fiancee, his 18-year-old son, and my 7-month-old son. I take my 7-month-old to work with me every day. He goes on service calls and everything!

When I'm not working (i.e., almost never), I like to read, write, snowboard, figure skate, play classical piano, and, of couse, hang out with the chickens!

I am/was a certified vet tech for years while I put myself thorugh college. After finishing my MS, I now teach chemistry and chemical enginnering at a local university. Althoug, I still moonlight on the summer as a tech---it addicting!

I am renovating a 300 year old house and raising two kids, 4 and 2.

Great thread idea!

I am 15, I have two jobs and school. I work at a barn three days a week and I am a waitress at a local pizza place about 3-4 days a week.

I have 6 dogs and 16 hens and a rooster and a bunch of chicks, i regularly buy and sell as well. I am a vegan and a devoted christian who is in the church choir, on the youth council, dance team, and I help keep the church nursery. AND I still have to mow the lawn once a week.

I'm twice your age, yet you sound like you're twice as busy as me!!! Kudos to you for being so busy and still finding time to volunteer!

Hi,

My name is Melanie. I've been married for 8 yrs this August. I'm the mother of three, Cassie is 9, Jacob is 6, and Justin was 4 when we lost him and our home in a housefire last year.

My husband manages the parts stores that his dad owns. I divide my time between the store and subbing in the area Head Starts, being a Girl Scout leader, and a couple of different boards and committees. (Not to mention running my kids to and from dance - thank goodness only 1 class left and then the big finale!

In December my family moved into our new home on 5 acres of land. Today I picked up 42 little fuzz butts from our local hatchery that I ordered last week. They are adorable! I picked them up at 1pm today and no casualties! I've been checking them every couple of hours. lol its just like being a new mom. We also have 1 cat named Whiskers and her 2 kittens, 1 garage cat named Tiger, 2 guineas named Flower and Daisy, and a part time dog named Peete (when we had our fire my in-laws temporarily adopted our dog until we were able to rebuild so now he divides his time between our place and theirs.)

Hi, great thread! Retired five years ago after 30+ years in manufacturing plant (25 years as clerical support and rest as supply chain team member). Raised two great sons and a lot of cats and rabbits along with them. After I retired I started thinking about getting some chickens, but with 2 cats and 2 dogs I've hesitated until this year. Now have 20 five week old chicks (at least 5 cockrells that will need to be rehomed- LOL) Oh, and I babysit one grandson so will have lots of time in the pool this summer since he loves water as much as I do!

My name is Dennis and I'm a stay at home dad.

My wife and I switched places (she was a stay at home mom) after I was injured at work and forced by the doctors (six of them) to 'retire'. I was a NJ Police Officer and although it was not always an easy job I enjoyed most of it, and I have some nice things saved for my kids and grandkids to have in the future from my time as a cop.

It took me a while to believe the fact that it was over. In fact I still think about it on nights like this (they're all sleeping). But looking back it was the best thing that could have happened as far as my children go. They love having me home and I get so much quality time with them now. We have a one year old and I've gotten to enjoy so many neat stages with her that I missed with my other two buddies. The last year or so I've adopted the attitude that 'shame on me' if I don't do as much as I can with my kids while they're young.

I found this site after a group of runaway chickens found me and my kids.....

You guys are stuck with me now.....LOL....

I am an RN for a living and a single mom of 16 years. We have a small city lot and love our chickens along with our other pets. I have been an RN for 24 years and before that worked in reforestation in OR, ID, and Alaska. I moved constantly till I had kids and have spent all their years here in the Rogue Valley. I miss the green of back East. How many of you know that it is desert here in SW Oregon? In fact most of the state is desert. As an Ohio girl I had no idea !

I am in advertising, and my husband is an electrician, right now we are living in Florida with pigs, chickens, dogs, and soon either goats or cattle, but wanting to move back to Oregon......... Florida has way to many BUGS..LOL And Very happy that i found this site.....thanks for all the info
