Best Automatic Chicken Door Openers???

Bird collector

Are you still pleased with your Pullet Shut door closer? Building another coop for my wife and research is pointing me towards this one. Any suggestions as options to look at?

Thanks. Jerry Albright

My opener is quite simple and has not failed yet. I use a length of whipper Snipper line attached to a guillotine type door. I pull one end of the line and secure it door opens; I disengage that end of the line door closes. No pulleys or fancy do daddery just a small hole drilled down in the top frame of the door on a slope and the line threaded through. If you give a second glance you can see the line against the gray wall on the right. Magic!

If you give my coop another glance you will notice a trailer hitch on the east end my coop faces north; East will be better I learned this year. You can tell where my coop was the previous year by the location of this garden spot and young buck. Makes gardening Easy Peasy less weeds and ground preperation. My gardens grow like wild fire.
Works for me in my small set up.

" I have close to 64 trips now around the sun; My coop was salvaged; Blew away from a relative. Hundreds of Coops can put mine to shame but I would not trade this coop for any because mine "MAKES ME HAPPY!"every day.

I've had mine for a year now and am still pleased. Opens at daylight and closes at dark....if I'm there or not. I trapped this guy last night. Leaving the coop door open is NOT an option!

Automatic chicken doors have been an obsession with me over the last few years and have made several blog posts on the various Do It Yourself versions out there for those who want an automatic door on a budget and for those who want a pre-built model.

A list of all those posts are here for anyone who might be interested in seeing what my years of research on this subject has turned up.

Would love to hear from someone who thinks I left a variations off the list.

Same here. Ours worked during this last winter every day like a charm. We had FREEZING weather...ice, plenty of snow, deluges of rain freezing up again within 24 hours. When we first got the door we had to have a wire replaced and the company did it but from that time on it has been 100%. The solar option works great for us.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a large auto door, big enough for my turkey's?
As a matter of fact I do:

Automatic Turkey Door

Not exactly cheap, but it is well built. For these units, I would recommend that you NOT use a cheap battery. Use one with 'F' cells in them, not the ones with 'D' cells padded out with styrofoam. Energizer sells a widely available such model as does Rayovac. Here is the Energizer model including the specific red/yellow logo that identifies it as containing the larger and longer-lasting 'F' cells.

The Rayovac 808 is also a good choice and is rated down to -30F temps.
