Best bantams for egglaying?

We've only had our flock for about a month and half and with the exception of our 2 pullets, all the hens are 1-3 yrs old. Of those hens only 1 is a standard (buff orp), the other 4 are bantams.

That being said:
*Our Cochin lays 5-6 eggs per week (she's my fave

)
*Our polish and partridge wyandottes have yet to lay

So with my VERY limited experience, I'd say cochins are pretty reliable, to still be laying that well and be past her "prime", my husband has numbered the days of the the other 3 bantams, calling them freeloaders

, I'm beginning to agree...

Hippichick, how long have you had your OEGs? I'm looking for bantam layers, too, and I've always loved the OEGs, but I never thought of them as layers.

And is that a frizzle in your avatar? Do you have that? What is it? Curiosity is killing the possum!

I've had OEGs for a few years now. They're what I started with. Just wanted some chickens for the horse barn. They're still some of my favorites. They are great layers. Yes, that's a bantam Cochin frizzle in my avatar. I've also got bantam Cochins, which are good layers also, but I have to say my OEGs definitely have them beat at egg-laying. But my Cochins are definitely sweeter birds, always wanting to be held.

Thanks, Paula,

With a plug like that I'm thinking OEGs are the bird for me. They're everywhere around here, and small enough I can get away with keeping them in my little city neighborhood.

Oh, hippichick, your avatar looks just like our little girl here! Her momma is the one I was speaking of earlier (my favorite), that lays almost everyday. I just told my hubby yesterday that I'd be happy with a whole flock of her.

But now you got me thinking about the OEG's. Since it looks like we'll be moving our other 3 out soon, I've been wondering what other's to get. I'm in the city, too, the banties are becoming a bit more appealing. We have our Buff Orp and her baby, but that may be it for the standards for us. Our buff is LOUD, I cannot imagine having more than one of her singing at once (dont know what we'll do when her girl starts laying), we can't even hear our little cochins song, and it sounds closer to a regular bird anyway...

Out of these different breeds which are the friendliest and calmest? I have cochins and they are sweet but stop laying in the fall and don't lay again until spring. Thanks!
