Best bantams for egglaying?

Ya gotta love the frizzles! That's Katie Lou, she was young there, and has filled out alot since then, but I just love that pic of her, so I've never changed it. She's a momma of lots of babies now.

Yellowflower, I think Cochins are definitely the friendliest and calmest, much more so than my OEGs-they can be flighty little suckers. And my Cochins lay well Fall through Spring, just not so good in Summer because it's just so hot here.

I saw some OEGBs at a poultry show once. There were two or three little kids bringing them in to put in their cages for the show, and the kids were handling them like they were pet kittens or puppies, talking babytalk, stroking them, holding each bantie in both hands and setting them gently in their places. The banties were absolutely still and calm, and one of them, being held and rocked by a five year old boy, had her eyes half shut in a look of such pure bliss that I wanted to take her AND the kids home with me there and then.

It says a lot about the OEGBs as pets. It also says volumes about gentle, confident handling, and even more about parenting. Those were lovely, lovely children!

That is so sweet. Mine are flighty, but I really don't mess with them. Just goes to show you what lots of attention can do.

When I'm doing honey-do's around the house and bend over, my kids yell, Dad, don't do crack!

I have two RIR bantams and one White Leghorn Bantam. I love the novelty of the tiny white egg from the leghorn but the Rhode Island Red's lay eggs nearly as large as a store-bought large egg. And beautiful pinkish tan. I only got them this year and they were already a year old in the spring so I imagine they were laying smaller eggs in their first year. They're very quiet and sweet-natured and barely make a mess. I'd say I get about 4-5 eggs from each a week. The large white eggs in the photo are store eggs and the light tan is from my RIR bantam.

I have a trio of Mottled Cochins, a rooster and 2 hens. I get one egg every day and 2 eggs every other day. They're very reliable and they're antics are adorable to boot!

You guys are going to make me keep the frizzled bantam cochins I just hatched out! Stop it! I don't need more chickens!

What am I saying ... OF COURSE I need more chickens!!!

So what's wrong with my chickens?

I have 3 cochins and 2 D Uccles and they only lay good in the spring and summer. Except when their broody which is half the summer. Then they stop. I have only gotten about 3 eggs in the last 3 weeks from the D uccles. The cochins have quit! I have one EE which I'm expecting to see eggs from her real soon (she was broody) but I don't believe the cochins will lay again until spring. I love the cochins but I need some eggs in the winter. I also have 17 silkies I'm growing out but I know I won't see eggs from them until spring. Maybe they're better winter layers??

I bought a small flock of Silver Sebrights for my 5 Grandchildren to enjoy when they come to visit..and show in the local County fair in the Summers... Those little guys are egg laying machines!.... My wife fell in love with them.. really sweet too!
