Best blue egg layers

I Love Ameraucana... but once mature every other day laying at best. First laying season many breeds will put out daily volume.

Seems like if volume is important maybe the "super blue eggs layers" will be good? Blue is dominant to white eggs.

I haven't gotten brown eggs from my feed store EE ever... but their reliability has been less than stellar and their personalities are all over the place. I like them a lot. :love

My pet chicken and I believe cackle both have real Ameraucana... never for the $3.50 price range though and will ALWAYS be sold under their variety like black or blue.

Lots of good suggestions. Good luck! :fl

Welcome to BYC! There are an awful lot of blue laying breeds or strains out there nowadays. I agree with EggSighted's assessment of Ameraucanas. They are good layers, but they taper off after their first year. The hatcheries often have blue egg laying strains, like Whiting True blues, which might be worth a look. Cream legbars are popular because they are new, so they might be worth a look, too. Lots of choices. I hope you find some good birds!

I love my EEs from Meyer Hatchery, but only one lays blue eggs. They’re both very personable, friendly, and funny. I wanted more blue eggs, but will keep both birds because of their personalities!

I had a SBEL that laid blue blue eggs. Stands for..super blue egg layer. :D A cross between an EE rooster, and a leghorn hen. They are usually a white hen, with black spots. I have a photo of one, laying in the same nest box with a wheaten Ameraucana..that also lays a pretty blue egg. WELCOME!!

They had been eating old apples off the ground, my Wheaten had a sticky face. :p. Blue eggs, coming right up!
