Best Breed for Free ranging

My favorite breed for free-ranging is Brahmas. Other breeds of similar size are also great. These are especially good if you have at least one rooster.
We have friends who were struggling with a fox. The fox got about half of their flock and 2 out of 3 geese. We had a few extra Brahma roosters so we gave them 2... There's no more fox problem now.

Games. Had a game hen this fall that got carried away by a fox. She whipped him and made him bring her back. I have killed possums, coons and skunks that were cowering in the corner of a pen trying to shield their eyes, after a game chicken made enough noise to wake the dogs in the kennel. Have found evidence that would suggest that hawks are not very successful trying to consume protein in game chicken form.

My bar rocks are pretty successful. My broody hen keeps to the sky like nothing I've seen. Taught the rocks from hatchling stage to do same. New rooster, in turn, picked it up from them too. Anything larger than a stellar Jay gets an alarm and they dive under overhead cover. Cars, tables, wheelbarrow, me.... so far, no losses since the one that taught my broody about hawks 2 years ago.

My Easter Eggers have always been very alert and good foragers. My Delaware, Rocks, and SS are good too. But I will say though that my White Leghorn has BY FAR been the best. She is extremely industrious! She looks like the Energizer Bunny running all over the place looking for things to eat :lau and often she finds stuff the other birds don’t. She is also very alert and aware and keeps an eye out. And of course lays huge eggs every single day for over a year. By far my new favorite chicken. 😁🥰

Pheonixes. They raise their numbers with no intervention, live free range 24/7 and in almost 4 years, have lost 2 to predators. One (kinda special mentally anyhow) to a neighbor's dog and one to a feral cat.
