Hi all I raise Old English for show. I have raised them for 20 plus years. What breed in your opinion is the best brood hen. Also what breed go broody the most often. Thanks for your answers.

I'm new at this myself - got my first chickens last March. I have heard many times that Silkies are considered some of the best Broodies.

They go Broody more often and are great mothers (even some of the Roos help raise the young ones) to the chicks.

Silkies, they are broody girls.

Cochins are suppost to be broody as well.

I know Silkies for sure because a friend of mine has some and they are ALWAYS broody.

Correct about the roo's raising chicks. I have a silkie rooster that's broody and sitting on two eggs, as a matter of fact.

I've heard many good things about Orpingtons going broody. They make great mothers too.

We raise cochins (standard) and they are born broody. They will sit on a rock if you let them. I would definately go with a cochin for broodiness.
