Awesome. Until now all I have is Leghorns and a red sexlink of unknown heritage. Nobody who likes to go broody.

Now I got babies - 2 Buff pullets and 2 half Buff pullets so maybe I got a chance at hatching some next spring or summer!

My best is my little RIR bantam, Delilah. She thinks her goal in life is to be a mother. Seeing her with two standard Ameraucana chicks that she hatched was beyond adorable. When they were almost her size, she would just sit between them with her wings covering their backs.

I did very well with using cochin bantams for broodies. As I can recall, I would put about 10 eggs under each. They can fluff up more than you would think, covering a good bit. There was one thing, that I will mention, although it may or may not be a problem for you.....they always went broody on the ground level. I would put little cages around them for protection and to keep the other hens away from them. That can be fine, so long as you aren't in a flood zone.

HI, know very little about chicky babes.. but my silkie lays a dozen eggs and sits on anything she can find for weeks after that.. my neighbour reckons get a batam..she gets them to hatch her crazy turkey birds eggs..:

I think you all are forgetting about silkies, they're great broodies too. A also have a duck that broods constanly, I think she just started again yesterday and this will be her 4th time this year.

Ill have to go with a game hen. Mine has gone broody 4x this year and only gets off the nest for someone to lay her another egg. And she is FEISTY in protecting her nest.
I just pulled eggs out from under her and substituted eggs from the incubator. I figured i would rather her raise them than me.
Observe what a wonderful mother game hens make... (taken this morning... she has 6 total. notice her hackles raised because i got too close hehe)
