Best chicken breeds

hey I’m looking to add some new hens to my flock, I was wondering what some of the best friendly and social type of breeds are for chickens?

Golden Comets, not a breed, a sex-links. Mine are 34 months old. All were laying at 19 weeks.
The good; lots of Jumbo size eggs, 6 to 7 eggs a week the first year, friendly, cold hearty.
The bad; burn out, one quit laying at 24 months, still healthy and a freeloader. Egg bound, lost one at 23 months. Lost another at 25 months, unknown illness.
Got 2 layers left, gave me 9 eggs last week. .

Barred Rocks, mine are 6 months old. All were laying at 23 weeks.
The good; 5 to 6 eggs a week, small and medium-sized so far, friendly, cold hearty. 7 layers gave me 41 eggs last week.
The bad; smallish eggs so far, hope they reach large to XL size. Big appetite, love their feed.
A heavy duel purpose breed, need to be in good physical condition to carry and cuddle.
My first breed of Barred Rocks, don't know how well they will hold up, with egg laying and resistance to health problems.
Bottom line, I love my Rocks. . GC

I used to have some Easter Eggers who were very friendly and social. I also had an Orpington who took care of a lame Faverolle for about a year until the Orpington passed away. Presently, I have a Barred Rock who is very social with both me and the other hens. She isn't picked on by the others, but isn't a bully either. Good luck with your flock!

They are so beautiful. How do they fare in the heat & humidity? Also, do they need special care due to their fuzzie feet? Thanks!!

I’ve got a pretty friendly and nice Barred rock-Cochin mix, she hasn’t started laying yet, but that is understandable b/c she is only 21 wks old.

Temp is mild here in Ireland, when it does get hot in the summer they’ll usually hang around the trees. The feathered feet can be a problem if poop gets stuck to them or if the run is muddy, I usually dump a load of wood chips around the run to keep down the mud and i keep the coop as clean as possible. they free range around the Feild during the day aswell.

My opinion, for Best chicken breeds is going to be different for everyone, so my suggestion is what would you like? Most chicken behavior also depends on how they are raised. The best way to a chickens heart is through it's stomach.
