Best chicken waterers?

Horizontal nipple would be best. I wish some companies make the bottom lip 1/4" deeper. The chicken will like cup much better, but you need to clean the cup regularly and will be frozen during winter. If you are going to buy cup, I found out the orange seem much better quality than red. Sorry... I bought from Ebay few years ago and no brand.

I made this

I plan to sink a submergible fish tank heater into it during winter.

Won't the water in the little cup freeze?

I used to have rabbits with those water bottles that have a little tube with a ball to lick: when the ball & tube froze, the rabbit could not drink, even though the bottle itself wasn't frozen.

I guess they may freeze. I will see this winter.

I've seen people use the plastic gallon milk jugs. They cut out a hole in a side & then melt the cut edges a bit so they're not sharp.
I’m curious about this. Why do they cut a hole in the side? What do they use to get the water out and where do they put it? The cap?

Water goes in the bottom half of the jug.
Half the top gets cut out (leave the handle to hang it by, cut out the other half of the jug's top.)
The cut-out part lets the chickens stick their heads in to drink.

It ends up like a water bowl with a partial cover.

Same here!

If you live where temps are below 32°F.... they will freeze, no doubt.
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
