Best dewormer for hens laying eggs?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I checked house droppings this morning & didn't see any more maggot things. I did see some runny poo. I'll try getting DE and putting ACV in the water (please reply if you know how much, TY!).
Also do young hens start laying, lay a few weeks, then stop for awhile? 3 of mine were laying regularly for 3 weeks, but now one has stopped. The larger birds (Buff & Ameracauna) haven't started laying yet. Everyone is 25 weeks old.
I appreciate this site & all the expertise. So much for me to learn! But it sure is fun :)

As far as acv is 1 tbsp per gallon. ACV with the "mother " is best. There is a poo chart online. It sounds silly but it is helpful cause sometimes they can have weird dropping sometimes that are actually normal and some not. How is the hen not laying acting?

Thanks Rachel! Surprise, Susie the sussex laid an egg both yesterday and today! Guess she just needed a little time off. Everything seems normal. She's more vocal than any of the others and has a habit of shaking her head. :)

:celebrateGlad to hear!! Our little feathered friends have a way of worrying us. Even my older hens take breaks from time to time even when not broody or molting. It's gotta be hard work

Hi @SE Island Chickens :frow Welcome To BYC

X2 on having a fecal float test performed - it's best to have confirmation of a worm overload if at all possible.

You mention you believe your hen has sour crop? Here's a wonderful article that give you information on various crop issues and treatments:http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments

Thanks so much for the link to sour crop prevention. I had no idea I had so much to learn.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Rachel. So just sprinkle DE around the enclosure? Fortunately we are able to allow the chickens to free range but they spend a lot of time hanging around the enclosure, which is quite large for the four of them. I'm still trying to decide what would be the best ground cover for the enclosure. I've read pine chips work well so I may give that a shot. Thanks so much for your advice. Robin
I use deep litter ... leaves grass, shredded paper and in the winter if I run out of bagged leaves I buy shavings https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/deep-litter-method.70/

I agree. I don't see a reason to deworm unless NEEDED. I have never had deworm my hens thankfully and don't beleive there is a dewormer for laying hens. There are small things you can do to help prevent. DE doesn't kill internal parasites once they are there but could help as a preventive method. Also ACV in the water every 2-4 weeks helps prevent but also doesn't rid of them once they are there. Plus ACV is really good for them
