Hi everyone,
I am fairly new to owning chickens and I just deworming my silkie rooster for the 4 round meaning time 14 days ago with ivermectin and I been told by one friend two days ago of mine that it’s time to switch products or my silkie will develop a resistance as a result didnt deworm him with ivermectin today. However I want and NEED to make sure I switch to the right product. My friend is convinced my rooster has round worms since he is pooping every time I worm him 4-6 inch long worms and is straining and struggling to get those long thick worms out as a result my friend wants me to switch to wazine but knowing wazine kills nothing but round worms makes me worried as to what if he had another type of worm. So any recommendations as to a good broad spectrum dewormer for chickens knowing my rooster has a very bad case of worms to the point the worms are gianormous and knowing he still isn’t worm free after 4 rounds of ivermectin each being 14 days apart from each other? I was thinking Flubenvet except problem is one can’t buy it in the United States. Also those that recommend products that aren’t labeled for poultry as a result won’t have dosage directions on the bag or bottle I would appreciate instructions on how much to give and how often... thank you in advance. As it’s about time that I kill these 4-6 inch long worms and get them out of him and get him comfortable again.

Can you post any pictures of droppings with worms? Is is possible to take in some fresh droppings to your vet for a fecal float to test for worms and identify them?
Ivermectin has lost it’s effectiveness on worms in chickens from overuse. Many people use fenbendazole (SafeGuard liquid goat wormer, Panacur or SageGuard equine paste) or Valbazen which get most chicken worms.

I agree with your buddy, it sounds like you are dealing with ascarids (roundworms).

Wazine should work. Safeguard is a good broad spectrum dewormer.

Safeguard Liquid Goat Wormer.

For Safeguard, 1.5ml for an average 6 lb bird. Half that for bantams. Repeat in 10 days.

Thank you I will deworm him with Safeguard 1.5ml once he starts pooping the long worms out I will take a picture of the worms. I had others tell me that since they are as thick as earth crawlers sold for fishing bait that they are more likely tapeworms? Regardless I will take a picture of all the worms he poops out and post it on here.

Tapeworms are flat, like linguini, and have a frilly appearance if you look closely at them and can be feet long. Ascarids look more like earthworms with cylindrical bodies.

Here are some pics comparing the two.
First tapeworm, then ascarid.

If they are tapeworms you need something with praziquantel because a single dose of Safeguard (fenbendazole) does not treat tapes.

For tapes get Equimax (ivermectin & praziquantel) paste for horses and give ~0.032 ml per pound (0.16 ml for a five-pound chicken).

Yes they are tapeworms as they are semi flat and are bumpy looking just like the tapeworm in the picture showed.
Also does valbanzen treat tapeworms? If so what dosage should I feed my rooster? 2ml maybe? As my neighbor who owns cattle offered to sell me some. So I was just curious as to what’s better valbanzen or equimax or zimectrin gold horse paste that has preziquantel in it?
